Services for Adults with Learning Disabilities

Crest provides a supported work opportunity service to individuals with learning and physical disabilities across Conwy and Denbighshire.

All individuals are supported by qualified support workers, to assist them in their work tasks and individual needs.

A variety of work opportunities are available. Clients are encouraged to choose the types of work that they enjoy, such as working in Crest’s Community Store. The are given assistance to greet customers and serve them using the till. Clients are also involved in stocking the shop and arranging displays on shelving.

In Crest’s textile area adults with learning and physical disabilities iron clothes for the store and are shown how to recognise setting on the iron and sort clothes into ages. Some clients are involved in weighing the textile bags and transferring weights to the calculator using numerical skills.

We also offer clients the chance to assist kerbside textile collectors when delivering leaflets. Many individuals on Crest’s work opportunities programme enjoy going out in the van for the day.

Crest’s new venture, Fareshare, offers adults with learning disabilities the chance to assist the sorting of food ready to be delivered to charities across Conwy and Denbighshire.

The team of qualified support workers will establish goals for each individual to work towards during the year. Each client will have a regular review to make sure they are meeting their goals.

Crest offers a pickup and drop off service for all work opportunity staff.

Pat Chapman, a support worker at Crest said “The placements are unique, they give each individual a choice. Some decide to work in the Community Store and others enjoy sorting the textiles.

The clients we have at the moment have recently been on a sponsored walk, they have made some great friends and the all enjoy coming to work. They get paid for their work and at the end of the year they are given a certificate.”
