Crest’s school education plan
Schools in the Conwy county who sign up to textile collections will be offered recycling workshops. Crest’s Publicity and Promotions Officer will visit your school to teach children about textile recycling.
How do textile collections work?
Crest will work with teachers to discuss a suitable collection date. Once your school has collected 20 bin bags of textiles, our friendly team of Crest waste collectors will pick up your textiles. The textiles will then be weighed by our drivers and you will receive a textile collection slip detailing the weight collected. Your school can then invoice Crest for the amount highlighted on your waste collection slip. There is no requirement to collect a tonne of clothing and cheques can be issued after each collection.
We do not have enough space to store 20 textile bags?
If you are struggling to store your textiles, Crest’s Publicity and Promotions Officer can organise an Eco Day. Children will be asked to bring textiles in on your Eco Day and a Crest driver will collect the bags. During this day Crest can arrange a recycling workshop for school pupils.
Working with your School Eco Council
Crest is keen to involve pupils in the organisation of textile collections. We work with your School Eco Council to design leaflets and posters to encourage the whole school to bring textiles. We then work with your teachers to send out the leaflets to parents before your textile collection.
School Workshops
Workshops can be held at school premises to highlight how items can be re-used and recycled. The interactive, practical workshops will allow youngsters to explore the history of textile recycling, discover how fasion has become disposable and what we can do to help the environment and the impact of throwing items that can be recycled into landfill. Reducing and re-using can help to protect the environment and benefit the wider community.

Seeing the recycling process in action – school trips
Crest Co-Operative offers schools, which have signed up to the textile recycling, the opportunity to visit our Llandudno Junction Warehouse. Pupils will learn how a social enterprise at the heart of the community works to limit waste.
Pupils and teachers will be given a guided tour of our textile collection depot and will find out what happens to the textiles when they are recycled. They will get the chance to work with our textile team to find clothing suitable for re-sale.
Crest also operate a food poverty project, Fareshare North Wales. Children will be taken on a guided tour of the Fareshare Warehouse, where food is stored to distribute to the homeless and vulnerable. They will see the vast amount of food that is saved from landfill and will find out how it is benefiting the Conwy and Denbighshire community.
